Discovering the Perfect Romantic Marriage Proposal Idea

proposing with a fortune cookie

I'm sure you and your partner enjoy fortune cookies at Chinese restaurants. Why not make your own and insert your own romantic proposal into one of them? Make sure to print and prepare your "proposal fortune" ahead of time. I recommend printing a few copies so you can make a bunch of cookies and pick the best looking one.

Here are the ingredients you'll need to make 15 fortune cookies (that will give you plenty of chances to make the perfect cookie!)

Recipe for Romantic Proposals - Fortune Cookies

You will need a mixing bowl, a baking sheet, a wide spatula, a clean and flat work surface (large cutting board will do) and a rimless bowl to fold and shape the cookie.Don't forget to have a few copies of your "proposal fortune" handy.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F and make sure to prepare your work surface and have everything ready (read through the rest of the recipe to understand why).
  2. In your mixing bowl, whisk the egg white and vanilla until it starts to foam. Add the flour, sugar and salt and mix until smooth.
  3. Scoop out about one tablespoon of the mixture and pour it onto the baking sheet. Move the baking sheet around or use a spatula to spread the batter into a thin circle with a diameter of roughly 3 inches (8 cm). The idea is to create a thin and even flat "cookie".
  4. Bake it for about 5 minutes or until your circle is golden around the edges but still pale in the center.
  5. Take it out of the oven and, using the spatula, quickly flip it upside down and transfer it onto your work surface.
  6. Place the fortune just off the center and fold the cookie in half (the fortune should be lying inside the cookie, along the fold).
  7. Quickly pick up the cookie and place the center of the folded edge on the rim of your extra bowl (keep it upright as if you were filling a taco). Pull down on both sides to give it the right shape. Hold it in this position for a few seconds or until the cookie cools off and retains its shape.
  8. Transfer the "shaped" cookie onto a rack to finish cooling and repeat the entire process with your next cookie. Make sure to always cool the baking sheet before each cookie.
